Details

RIVERS- PAST AND PRESENT  13 Nights/ 14 Days
This Safari introduces you to four unique geographical features and the birds, animals and plants associated with each. It also allows you to walk, do night drives, boat or mekoro excursions and gamedrives. Deception Valley is an ancient fossil river in the Kalahari where desert animals and birds congregate during the wet season.

Khwai River is the furthest, eastern finger of the Okavango Delta with a constantly changing end, as flood waters come and go. Known for it's Raptors, the plains on either side are frequented by herds of game using this essential water source.

The Savuti Channel has flowed and dried up three times in the last 175 years, leaving vast grasslands which are famous for their zebra migration and the big cats, at this time of year.

The Okavango Delta is a major river system which allows water, collected in the Angolan Highlands, to fan out across the Kalahari transforming it into a paradise for wildlife.

Notes on the trips

Our Safaris.
Good Reasons to Choose a Mobile Safari
We camp in more remote and undisturbed areas, this gets you closer to nature with fewer distractions.
You have continuity with the same guide and group through-out so there is no time wasted with repetition and getting to know a new guide every few days
Guests who book on a Mobile Safari are very interested in wildlife and making every moment count, they have a lot of shared interests.
The simplicity of camplife.
The friendships and camaraderie that we see developing all the time amongst our guests.
We work wit the better Permanent Registered Botswana Company and the member of the Hotel and Tourism Association of Botswana and being fully insured is a pre-requisite for this.
Our Scheduled Safaris
Every year Evolution travel Safaris schedules a number of safaris, which coincide with the best time of year to visit each area. You can always book a place on one of these, or you can reserve the entire departure for an exclusive group. We like to keep group sizes small and will normally only take 8 guests for those departures. We will guarantee to run these Safaris with 2 guests, so there is no risk of last minute cancellations.
Tailor-Made Itineraries
We can tailor make an itinerary to suit you. We run safaris throughout the year and will give you expert advice as to what area is best at what time of year. For some groups a combination of Mobile Safari and Lodges works really well. This we can easily arrange, please contact us for a quote. We do Safaris to the Kalahari Transfrontier Park, hiking Safaris at Tsodilo Hills - amongst the rock art, also Tiger and Bream Fishing on the Okavango River and extensions to Victoria Falls.
An approximate price per person, varies between US$350.00 and US$500.00 per day.
The final price will depend on the length of the Safari, the group size and the exact Itinerary which you choose, as well as exchange-rate fluctuations.
Specialit Birding
SafarisTwitchers and amateur birders are both well catered for by Evolution travel Safaris. We schedule a number of birding safaris each year in our summer, December to March, when the migrating birds are visiting. These safaris normally combine a stay in the Kalahari Desert with the Okavango Delta, giving visitors a chance to see diverse habitats and their bird species such as Anteating Chat, Black Koraan and Double Banded Courser in the Desert and Slaty Egret, Wattled Crane and Painted Snipe in the Delta. Again, you can either book a place on a scheduled departure or we can make up an itinerary to suit individual needs. Our guides pride themselves on their love of birds and their abilities to find them.
Our Staff
Our Senior Guide, ewan, has lived and guided in Botswana for 25 years. He has acted as a consultant for a number of wildlife documentary teams, as well as run lodges and mobile safaris. We like to keep our groups small and exclusive as we feel this enhances your experience and ensures you more personal attention. A full complement of camp staff, most long-serving, ensures that you are well cared for throughout your stay with us.
Our Guests
Our guests come from all over the world. Children are welcome on our Tailor-Made Itineraries and over 15's are welcome on the Scheduled Departures. We do not have an upper age limit, provided that you are reasonably fit. We take great pride in the number of repeat guests we have. If you would like to speak to one of them, we have their permission to release their email addresses or phone numbers.
Our Camps
Our camps are fully mobile consisting of 3m x 3m frame tents, in which you can stand, each with camp beds, linen, towels and a personal washstand. They have a light and bedside table and we use chemical flush toilets, in an attached en-suite tent. Camp has hot and cold showers.
Our Vehicles
Our game drive vehicles are open, extended Land Rovers which offer the very best photographic opportunities and are great for bird scopes. They have a fridge in which we stock a good variety of mixers, fruit juice, bottled water, beer and wine
A Typical Day on Safari
Our day normally begins just before daybreak with a wake-up call. Hot water is brought to your wash stand and breakfast  is served before the morning game drive. We are generally back in the camp before midday for a substantial brunch and siesta. After tea in the afternoon we go out again, to be back in camp just after sunset for sundowners, snacks and dinner. Some days a picnic lunch will be taken with us, which means that we can be more flexible about the time we return to camp. We dine under the stars or in an airy tent with napkins and wine glasses. Fresh bread is baked on hot coals and our meals are wholesome and varied. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with prior notice.
The Okavango Delta:Botswana is visually exciting with each of its unique habitats having distinct features. The Okavango River channels water from Angola into an area the size of Wales, known as the Okavango Delta. In a country where water is a precious resource, the delta provides sustenance for a large number of animals and birds.
Central Kalahari 'Thirstland':In contrast the Central Kalahari 'Thirstland' reveals a fragile environment where seasonal migrations are necessary for most animals that have not acquired special desert adaptations. The summer rains cause the desert to bloom and its appearance alters within hours of the first raindrops.
Chobe National Park:Northern Botswana is renowned for its large herds of elephants and buffalo, other plains game also congregate along the Chobe River, especially once the rain-filled pans have dried. The changeable Savuti Channel keeps us guessing as to when it will flow again and provide Botswana with a second inland delta. It has flowed and dried up 3 times in the last 175 years. The Savuti Marsh is famous for its lion and hyena interaction.
Moremi Game Reserve:Moremi Game Reserve lies on the edge of the Okavango Delta where desert meets water. It has an amazing combination of vegetation types, animal species and bird life.
Nxai Pan National Park:Nxai Pan National Park is located on a fossil lakebed, now covered in grass. It hosts a wide range of desert animals such as springbok, oryx and the predators. Baines' Baobabs are within the park and they are incredibly atmospheric.
North West of Botswana:Tsodilo Hills are in the North West of Botswana and here you will find over 200 sites with ancient paintings, over 3500 in all with some dated at 4000 year's old.
